How to Get Along with Your Roomate

So the most unexpected thing has happened over the past week. My roommate and I (yes the one who I have bitched about many MANY times) are getting along! In fact, we're actually having fun! I don't know what has happened.. but I like it! So, I decided to share the things that have been going differently that may have led to us getting along.

  1. Don't dwell on the small things. This goes without saying. If every little thing they do bothers you, then your going to hate them every second of the day
  2. Don't put down what they do. Many times I have silently (and not so silently) judged my roommate for watching a lot of Netflix. Well, I have stopped! They are going to do whatever they want and that's their choice. You are not there mom. You don't need to tell them how to live. Odds are, they know what they are doing, and if they don't, they will figure it out on their own.
  3. Ask about things they like. So my roommate watches Netflix a lot, so I asked her how her show was going. It actually led to a great conversation about things that actually related to the both of us. Typically they will first answer your question about that topic and if it's not something that interests you, that can be a bit boring. However, if you plow through odds are something else will come up that actually does make you interested. Although honestly, if it's going to bore you that much, I wouldn't ask about it
  4. Find something you have in common. I think this is the most important one. Even if you are completely different people with different views and different backgrounds, you're bound to have something in common. Turns out for me and my roommate it was a great love of Christmas! It got us talking and led to us just being more comftorable with each other so we could talk about more things.
The biggest key with a roommate is just to start talking. You never know what you'll end up talking about and you might learn something new about them, which might make you like them a lot more! So try! You never know what will happen!

The struggle continues...

Luke Bryan was a Stripper

So, Luke Bryan in my opinion is one of the hottest country singers out there. In fact I would go as far to say that he is one of the hottest men out there! He is one of the few men in this world who can rock tight jeans and rock them well! If you have seen him in concert (I'm extremely jealous) you know that he is quite good at shaking that perfect butt of his! That being said! Some genius somewhere went ahead and put Luke Bryan shaking his perfect behind into a series of clips to the surprisingly fitting song "Don't Drop that Thun Thun Thun" by Finatticz. I swear this man was a stripper in a past life! (I also want to mention that I own nothing that involves this video I and simply sharing this beautiful link!)
So watch and enjoy what may be the best 3 minutes of your life!
They should really remake "Magic Mike" but with country singers... That may be the hottest movie ever!
The struggle just got a little better...

How to Fix a Bad Mood

So for the first time since I've been here in college, I got a bad grade on an exam. Now keep in mind, I consider a good grade anything over an 80. So, when I say it's a bad grade it's bad. In fact it was a 65%!!! That's not very good at all! So needless to say once I saw that I took a left turn right into grumpy town! Now this is not the best thing when you live with other people. So before I ripped someone's head off and lost all my friends, I tried to put myself in a better mood!
1. Paint my nails!
Pampering can make any girl feel better! I also have a horrible obsession with nail polish! So I decided to relax by painting my toes! I decided on "Mint Candy Apple" by Essie. I love it because it looks like Tiffany Blue! So now my little piggies look pretty.

2. EAT FOOD!
Ok so health nuts and psychologists probably just cringed. Like many illicit substances, you should never cover emotions with food. But... it works! I mean really a fully belly= a happy belly! I had recently just ordered Chinese food so it was great timing as I sat devouring a bowl of Lomein.

3. Watch a movie in bed!
Find a movie that can distract you or better yet make you laugh! Whatever takes your mind away! I decided on Dark Shadows. The one where Johnny Depp is a vampire in the 70s. Not the best film, but not the worst either! It certainly got the job done!

*My Secret Weapon*
If all else fails and you're still in a horrible mood, look up pictures of cats! The internet is full of them! Let's be honest we've all done it. You don't have to be a cat person to think they're cute! I mean look!
You know he's cute!

So that's what I did and it actually kind worked. Everyone is going to get a bad grade at some point. It's what you do after that matters.

The struggle continues...

Organize Me: Finals Week

It's that time of the year! Winter break is right around the corner, which means I get spend a whole month at home with family and friends celebrating the holidays and New Years. This also means that it's time for the dreaded Finals Week! But in all honesty I'm not that worried. That sounds terrible but it's because I'm ready! I know what I need to do and I have everything I need to do it. I want everyone to feel this way about their Finals because the more confident you are about what you know, the better you will do! I promise! So here it is!

1. Make a Finals Binder!
This is my holy grail of Finals week! It has everything I could ever need for Finals. It keeps me organized and it keeps everything in one place.
This is the front of my binder. It has my exam schedule on it and what I am being tested on for each exam. I also decided to put a fun quote on the front to make me laugh while I am stressed and studying. I also chose to add glitter cause theres nothing that glitter can't improve!!

This is the inside of the binder. It has a section for each exam. In each section I keep all of my study guides for each test. I don't want to keep everything in here because I want to be able to take it everywhere and if it's too heavy I won't want to. The lined paper on the front is for me to make study guides and take notes on things as I need to. I also only want to focus on what I need to know for finals so I don't get distracted by anything else (God forbid I study something I don't need to!).
Things I do want in each section:
  • Study Guide for each chapter that highlights the key points of each chapter in my own words so I understand them
  • Old quizzes on the chapter to review the kind of problems the teacher will ask
  • Powerpoints from previous chapters
2. Make Study Guides
Making study guides is a great way to study. The act of writing out the notes and copying them is a way to remember things. On the study guide you want:
  • The key points from the chapter
    • These are usually the things that the teacher talks about most during class.
  • Your own words
    • you want everything written in a  way you understand it. You do not want to simply copy the notes from the power point.
  • Examples
    • This is also really important for math problems because you want to see what you need to do for different types of problems
    • You can also use examples for explaining different concepts. You can make these up on your own or you can use ones your teacher uses in class whatever works for you!
3. Find a Good Place to Study
You want a place where you can focus. Somewhere that doesn't have a lot of distractions and somewhere you're not going to fall asleep! The library is always great but its usually very full during Finals Week. Most classrooms will be open during finals week and those will usually be very empty and very quiet. Find somewhere you like and you're not going to mind going to. So somewhere across campus might not be the best idea if it means you will never go there.

These are just some of my best tips for Finals Week. But, when it comes to studying, you need to know how you learn best. So Good Luck!
May the curve be ever in your favor!

Name Change!

Hi everyone!
As I earlier wrote in this post, I changed the name of this blog. Well, that didn't last long, the original name is back! Sorry for what I'm sure is a lot of confusion! But, sometimes the original idea is the best one!

So, I have decided to make a little change to things around here. Actually, it's a pretty big change! As I'm sure you've noticed, I've changed the name of the blog to Pink Prepster. I did this because this was my original idea for a blog but I decided on the other name instead. Now, however I have decided to go with my original idea because I feel that it fits the contents of this blog more. Not to worry! Everything else from content to location, everything else is still the same! In fact, I actually have some really exciting things planned for the near future!

If you don't share my belief that this change is for the good feel free to leave me a comment below! I'd love to know what you all think! Otherwise, I think this is going to go really well! (I hope!)

Candle Jar

So, Mason Jars are just the best things for crafting!
This week I decided to buy some candles for Christmas time for my dorm (No, I'm not allowed to have candles in my room but don't tell my RA!) But I also wanted something to put the candle in to keep it safe and protected, so I decorated a Mason Jar!
I started with

  • a plain clear Mason Jar
  • Paper Star cut-outs
  • Modge-podge
  • Silver Glitter
  • A candle of you're choice (optional)
So what I did was I printed and cut out pictures of small stars. They are easy to get if you use the shapes on Microsoft Word. Then I glued the Stars to the Mason Jar with the mode-podge to the outside of the jar. Once the stars were all on. I covered the outside of the jar in modge-podge, including over the stars. Then I poured the silver glitter all over the outside of the jar. Then I let everything set for a few minutes, and I used tweezers to pull off the stars. With the star windows open, I placed the candle inside of the jar and lit the candle. I think it came out pretty well!

Fall Outfits

When I was younger, I never liked clothes during fall. I always wanted to wear bright colors all the time, but now I love fall clothes! There is just something about them because you don't have to wear a heavy coat, but you can still wear comfy sweaters and scarves. So, today I have decided to share with you some of my latest outfits.
These are what I wore to class the past couple of days. I like to look nice when I go to class because it makes me focus better. Whenever I wear sweatpants (and I LOVE sweatpants!) I just wanna curl up and take a nap, which during class, is usually frowned upon. So this is what I chose

Then last night I had to dress in Business Casual for a sorority function. So I stuck with my military jacket because it is my absolute favorite thing for fall. I paired it with a dress that I usually wear for summer. I bought it last spring from Nordstrom. The military jacket I got this summer form J.Crew.
One of my favorite things in fall is to pair a summer/spring dress with a fall sweater or jacket. It gives me a way to keep things colorful. I also find it easier to find dresses that I like during the spring and summer months cause more dresses are sold. By pairing the dresses with more neutral fall jackets or sweaters it also gives me an excuse to continue wearing the same dresses (yay savings!)
What are some of your favorite fall fashion hacks? Comment below

Calendar

So today, I was feeling rather crafty and ofcourse I got the idea from Pinterest! So I decided to make myself a new calendar for my room!
I started with a 11x14 inch picture frame. You can use any size you want, I chose this size because it didn't seem too small nor too large. I also bought two sheets of sparkly paper for a border as well as a 11x8inch piece of sparkly white paper. I bought everything from Michaels.

I used the smaller white piece of paper for the place to write everything and the sparkly pink paper (which is fantastic by the way!!) as the background. I wrote on the white paper to make the boxes and areas for dates and I wrote the name of the month above on the pink border. The white paper was placed in front of the pink paper so it could be seen and the pages of pink were cut to size to fit in the frame behind the paper. Then I used an Expo marker to write the dates and the month. Anything else you choose to write is up to you!
Personally I chose to write different assignments and big things that are happening that week. (obviously I don't have everything yet because it would be a lot more full!)

If I were to do it again:
  • I would make sure to have 5 rows for weeks or not write the days of the week on the actual paper
  • I would make the entire thing the calendar and not have the boarder so the boxes would be bigger to write it (but I wanted that pink paper!)
Other than that I am extremely happy with the way it turned out!
What's your favorite craft? Comment below! I'd love to know!

Fed Up

It's official I am done trying with this girl. Last night I was forced to sit with my RA, my roommate, and my 2 suitemates and talk about our room. It was the biggest waste of time in my life. I tried to explain how I felt like it wasn't my room and that I was walking on eggshells all year trying to keep this girl happy, and her response was "same". Everything I said, she would say that she felt the same way. Keep in mind that I would speak eloquently and articulate everything that I felt, she just said she felt the same way. Oh really, how do you feel? I dare you to share an idea that is actually original and not just simply out of my mouth! Now keep in mind after the meeting where she said how she never feels welcome in the room, she goes in the room and stays there for the rest of the night. Meanwhile, I avoided my room at all costs since I still didn't feel comfortable. I spent two hours crying over how upset I was and hiding in my suitemate's room. Even after I knew she was asleep I was still to anxious to go in. So, tell me how are our feelings the same again?
When I found out that I had to go to this meeting I was about to scream. So I talked to a friend who is also an RA in my building, just unfortunately not on my floor. When I told her what was going on, she said that it was most likely because she put in for a room transfer and so now they have to do this. OMG HALLELUJAH!!! I can only dream that this is true. So now if that is what happened the RA will be checking in with us for the next week, and if nothing changes, SHE'S GONE! I might throw a party if that happens.... So I have decided that I am just done trying. That girl never tries to be nice to me. She just throws hissy-fits and acts all passive aggressive. So, I'm done. I will be polite, I will answer when spoken to, and I will not be rude, but I will no longer spark any type of conversation with her because to be quite honest, I could really care less about hearing anything she has to say. Espicially since all she ever talks about is herself. I have tried long enough. This girl is making me miserable in a space that is supposed to be half mine, so I owe her nothing. Not once has she ever tried anything to make things better, so if she wants to its her turn because I'm done.

The Roomate Struggle Continues!

So, I have decided (obviously with no bias of course!) that I should be considered one of the best roommates ever! I am a neat person, I'm a quiet person, I clean EVERYTHING, and most of the time I'm never even in my room!! Like actually though, my roommate is LUCKY to have me! Meanwhile she:

  • Turns off all the lights at 10pm EVERYNIGHT
  • Is ALWAYS in the room!
    • Pretty much always just watching netflix
  • She doesn't clean anything!
  • She complains that things are dirty!
  • She wakes up at 8 am EVERY morning!
Now the one thing that really is bothering me this week is the trash. Now Sunday, I spent my whole day cleaning our room and bathroom (she went home over the weekend), now before that our trash in the bathroom had been rather full and I had meant to dump it but I just ran out of time. Now it has been an additional 3 days and still the trash has NOT been dumped! Like actually though what else are you doing that you can't run downstairs? Now, I know what you're thinking, "Oh if its bothering you just dump the it" and you're right, but THATS NOT THE POINT! The point of it is that I always do everything! I clean, I usually take out the trash, so why on the week where I'm not in my room for 5+ hours a day, can you not simply take out the trash?? I know she's not doing anything! So now I'm just waiting! I'm waiting to see if she ever does to it to begin with and if she miraculously does... how long will it take? I've stopped using that trashcan and instead use my separate one that I keep by my desk, so she can't even say that it's my trash. Omg, I dare her to say something about me not taking it out, I might loose it! I think I would actually flip out!
Ugh, the struggle never ends.......

It's Big Week!!

So the time has finally come! I'm getting a big!! I love being in a sorrority! Best part about getting a big? I get presents everyday all week! They're supposed to also serve as clues but really they're just cute things to keep us occupied and to build the suspense for the big reveal on Friday!
This is the first thing I got on Monday. It was delivered to my door! It has Reese's and chocolate and twix and everything! And not to mention it's so cute!
This was delivers to me today at dinner. It has my initial (which is now above my bed!) and a t shirt with the Alpha Mu Sigma letters on it! Granted I'm not allowed to wear it until next week... But still! My big I guess is just a rebel ;)
Ahh I don't even know who it is yet but I already love my big!!

Never Ending Homework

I swear homework just doesn't end. No matter how much you've done that day there is always something else that's due. So, I decided I would give out some of my best tips on how to stay organized and (partially) sane while dealing with the never ending pile of homework.

My Weekly Homework List
  1. DONT PROCRASTINATE! I know that everyone has been hearing this for probbably as long as they have been in school, but it's so true! I used to always procrastinate in high school and I still got good grades! So why would college be different? I was so WRONG! Everything you do in college is important. No assignment takes 5 minutes, so you can't save it till the day before, or worse the day of!
  2. Keep a to do list! I LOVE lists! They let me know what it is I have to get done. They also keep me calm! I like knowing what needs to be done and to see it, rather than just keeping an abstract list in my head that is always changing.
  3.  HAVE FUN! Remember you're in college. Although homework is a big part (I mean it is technically school!), it still isn't everything. Don't just sit in you're room all day (you don't want to be my roommate!). Go have fun! It makes the homework, so much less worse!

Roommate Struggles

The hardest part of college is not the academics or finding your social niche. No, the hardest, most difficult, most frustrating part of college is dealing with roommates! I don't know how people in triples or quads can do it. I'm struggling with just one! To describe all of her strangeness would just take to long....
So instead here is what I shall call the "highlight" list,

  • She goes to bed at 9:30 at night
  • She is ALWAYS in the room!
    • I never get anytime to myself!
  • She gives the dirtiest looks to anyone who comes in my room
  • She's mean to my friends when I'm not there
  • She never stops talking! Especially when I'm clearly doing homework
  • She always complains things are dirty
    • I'm a neat freak, who cleans everything atleast twice a week; nothing is dirty
    • She vacuums maybe once a month
  • 8:00 am is late for her to wake up...... Her first class is at 10:30am......

I feel like I'm constantly walking on egg shells trying to make her feel comfortable. I don't know how to do anything else. Luckily the good thing about her is that she goes home most weekends. I don't want to be mean, but how do I remind her that it's my room too? Am I being over dramatic? UGH!!
Oh well at least I get to go home this weekend for the first time!

My Latest Obsession

I have found my new favorite website! Now, down here there are a lot of monograms, and I like them, but I have no idea where to get them! That is until I fould Marley Lilly. Its a website that puts monograms on just about anything you can imagine! Last week I found out they were having a flash sale. So, I decided to order my first monogram! A pink seersucker bow with a mint green embroidered monogram! The wait is killing me! I don't know what is taking so long!
Monogrammed Hot Pink Seersucker Hair Bow

This is what it will look like but mint green writing! Isn't it pretty?!? Ugh I just can't wait! You can find anything on this website!
So now I love bows! I just can't wait!

First Day of Classes!

Today is my first day of college classes!!
And better news I have survived!
The bad news.... I already have homework :(
Luckily I only have each class every other day. But like the good student I'm trying to be I'm starting now to avoid procrastination!

Things I've learnt today:

  • Professors aren't as scary as you think they are
    • My professors so far have actually been very nice!!
  • Teachers will give you a printed out syllabus
    • I'm so glad I didn't print any out!!
  • You don't have to bring your book to class... (Wish I had known that before lugging a Bio textbook across campus!)
  • College has a lot of homework....
  • Don't schedule a class ten minutes after the previous class on the other side of campus.
So far I consider this a very successful day! I didn't get lost and I didn't have to eat lunch by myself! (That's my biggest fear...)
Now let's see what happens when I actually have to learn things!

Finally Moved In!

IM IN COLLEGE!
Yes that's right I've finally moved in! Move in was surprisingly seamless. There were a ton of people to help move all my things up two flights of stairs, people whom I cant thank enough by the way! I've just about go everything settled in.

Tips I learnt from moving in......

  • Dont keep things in paper bags... If they get wet, they rip
  • Suitcases are very useful for clothes
    • They have wheels which is good cause they will probably be heavy
  • Your closest isn't as big as you think it is
  • Command hooks are your best friends! They can organize anything!
  • Listen to your mom... She knows more than you

Moving in is extremely overwhelming. But don't worry once your parents leave and you get to hang all your pictures and other things you need to make it pretty, it really does feel like home.

Hello All!

Hello All!
My name is Julie! In 16 days I will be starting my new life in college!! I am so excited! I've created this blog to tell everyone about my experience and what I learn through my college experience, especially my freshman year. I'll include things like what I'm bringing, what I'm doing, what it's like, and what I expect to be the most entertaining, what I mess up! I'm new to all this so there will be a large amount of struggling involved! I'm a preppy girl who enjoys everything pink, but also a complete klutz! So stay tuned!
